Troubleshooting Nintendo Wii Wifi Connection with Error Code 52030 and 52130

Linksys WRT54G with the Nintendo Wii

My Nintendo Wii suddenly stopped being able to go online last week. The problem persisted for a few days with the Wii getting a System Error code 52030 or 52130. After two frustrating days of troubleshooting and wondering if I should replace my LinkSys WRT54Gv2 wireless router, the Wii was able to connect online again one morning.

What did I learn from this experience? If nothing was changed in your router or Wii settings and they are working fine (except with each other), just leave things be. I suspect the problem is with the website that the Wii connects to for the connection testing. Once the problem with the test connection site was resolved, the Wii was able to go online again. If a similar problem occurs again in the future, I will just leave things be for a while and don’t start thinking about replacing the wireless router.

In my case, with a ‘new’ Wii I had to manually do 2 things to get it going with my Linksys WRT-54G running HyperWRT:

0/ Temporarily disable security, and even with MAC filtering off put in the Wii’s MAC address [for later]
1/ Set the MTU manually to 1500.
2/ Set the wireless channel to 11.

Bonus: Shut off all other wireless devices. It probably didn’t help that the gateway is to a satellite internet connection [high latency].

    Hi,

I had the 52030 error code. I went into manual settings and set it to obtain an IP address manually, even though my router uses DCHP. It then failed with error code 52130. I then changed it back to automatic and it managed to connect to the router correctly and received an IP address via DCHP.

    Cheers,
    Eoan
